We’re pleased to announce that the Catalina Apartments project in St Ives, done in association with Hill Thalis Architecture and Urban Projects, won Highly Commended in the Contemporary Design category at the recent Ku-ring-gai Architecture and Urban Design Awards 2017. The Contemporary Design category is to acknowledge high quality architectural design and landscaped integration of multi-residential, mixed-use and non-rersidential building types. These were the inaugural awards in what is to be a biennial competition established to acknowledge the work being done in the area.
While the recognition is lovely, the happiest outcome was being able to visit the apartments with the award jury and meet with some of the residents after they had lived there for a few years. When we work with developers we rarely get to meet with the people living in the apartments we have designed, and these residents were very pleased with the outlook, sunshine, ventilation and sound proofing that good design had provided them.
